About Us
Christian Media Services was established in 1988 by Dr John Angus, formerly a College lecturer in Education. In 1989 a steering committee was appointed and the organization was subsequently incorporated as a non-profit association.
The Objectives of the association were to:
- Produce media for sharing the Good News of Jesus
- Support the work of Christian Outreach in Australia and abroad
- Establish a video library
In 1990 Fiji was visited and recordings were made in the Fijian and Hindi languages. These recordings were subsequently shared with the local people through visits to villages with the tapes. At that time Fiji was without any broadcast television.
1992 saw the first production of our Video Magazine. The “Video Magazine” is a video produced four times per year and distributed by post to subscribers. Each video is designed to provide segments that would be of interest to the whole family.
When CMS Inc. was established it was never envisaged that we would be able to be involved with broadcast television. However, Community Television provided that opportunity and our first programs went to air in 1995 on Channel 31, Sydney. Subsequently the broadcasts were expanded to include Arabic, Spanish and Assyrian languages. The English and Arabic programs continued until the ABA granted the licence to a new group and Channel 31 went off the air. We are delighted to say that our programs have now been reinstated with the recommencement of Channel 31.
Satellite Broadcasts
Our English language program “The Door of Hope” has been broadcast on a trial basis for the last three months through the Optus B3 satellite. The satellite gives good reception on the East Coast of Australia with a 60 cm receiving dish. With the resumption of broadcasting on Channel 31 Sydney this program will be discontinued. However our Arabic program is continuing five days per week
Establishment of a Small Television Studio
The Eastwood Gospel Chapel made available space for a Television Studio. The area is small but serves our needs well.
Financial Support
CMS Inc. is dependent on the free will giving of Christian people and churches for costs associated with our broadcasts, studio maintenance and the repair of equipment.
